Hello everyone,
I just updated a new gallery called “Franco’s reasons” with some shots from my latest work.
http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/slideshow/11475
It’s a positive story on mental health about Franco, who’s been in asylum for about 30 years (15 tied to his bed) due to his destructiveness toward things.
In 1978, after the innovative law against physical retention of mentally affected people was adopted in Italy (inspired by Franco Basaglia, father of the democratic psychiatry movement), they untied him from his bed, but he had to stay another twenty years in the asylum until he was completely freed in 1998.
From then, due to various (positive) encounters, especially with a psychiatrist and a painter, he turned himself in a very special artist, making “knot-objects” from every material, his pieces being exposed in various museums around Italy and Europe.
Hopefully it’ll become an exhibit on May 16th, at Blucammello gallery in Livorno, Italy. (I’ll post more info later), with the complete reportage.
Some have already seen this work, but anyway I’d highly appreciate every comment on it (really, honest), and for those who expect to be in Italy by May 16th, if you plan to come to the exhibition, there will be good wine and Livorno has beautiful spots on the mediterranean…
All best,
Tommaso
