OPEN CALL FOR TEN PHOTOGRAPHY COMMISSIONS ON ONE PLANET LIVING
Deadline: 14th April 2014
FotoDocument is partnering Photoworks and BioRegional to commission ten public space photo essays launching during Brighton Photo Biennial 2014 and to remain in situ for ten months.
Each of the ten essays will be themed on one of the principles of One Planet Living and works will be installed in a corresponding key public space in Brighton & Hove.
The list of prospective venues (subject to change) includes:
ZERO WASTE – Waste House, Brighton (tbc)
The exhibitions will collectively form an ‘arts story trail’ around the city and will be accompanied by a map and literature to illustrate the route and significance.
Submissions are welcomed from established and emerging photographers. Postgraduate students will also be considered. To apply, photographers must be at least 18 years old, live in the UK and have a valid UK bank account.
The judging panel will be made up of specialists in the field of photography and the environment including Simon Roberts (Photographer), Celia Davies (Curator & Director of Photoworks), Nina Emett (Photographer & Director of FotoDocument), Melanie Friend (Photographer & Senior Lecturer at University of Sussex), Professor Francis Hodgson (Photography writer, Professor at University of Brighton), Pooran Desai (Founding Director of BioRegional) and Thurstan Crockett (Head of Sustainability & Environmental Policy at Brighton & Hove City Council).
Photographers will be judged on the artistic excellence of their existing work, their track record of delivering documentary photography projects and their motivation for undertaking this commission.
Each selected photographer will receive a fee of £2.5k to include travel and subsistence. Further funds are available to cover printing and installation costs.
