Olympus LS-10 Mic Tests
|
I just picked up an Olympus LS-10 recorder for future multi-media projects and was doing some testing of the onboard mic modes and thought you guys might be interested if you can get past the geeky voice with the lisp. I recorded outside in MP3 format with the “Auto” levels on and the hi-cut filter on. I’m not much of an audio expert and this is far from a formal test but it should give you some idea of how well the onboard mic works in the five different modes. Uploading to Evoca seems to compress heavily. If you’d like the raw file, just drop me an email and I’ll provide a link to that. I’m sure it would do better in WAV format and careful adjustment, but wanted to find out how it would work for run and gun interviews.
In the past I’ve used the M-Audio and the Edirol R-9, and this thing seems much better built, more user friendly, and to have much better onboard mics.

Couldn’t agree more…, The LS-10 is a jewel. The only things which bothers me is the size of the level control wheel: TOO SMALL and too difficult to manipulate.
Stick to WAV files when recording: the quality is much better (equivalent to a DNG file). Storage isn’t a problem as you can add HSD cards.
