prices are going up on those! anything under $1000 is a good price….
if you want to get by in the interim, check out the Canon screw-mount 1960s 35mm f/1.8 and later 35mm f/2. these sell for between $300-$600, add the $40 adapter to make it a M-mount lens, and you’re good to go.
and don’t worry, rangefinder coupling is maintained, and the f-stop ring does not rotate when you focus, unlike earlier lenses. the only thing is that the 40mm filters are hard to find.
also 1990s Konica 35mm f/2 lens is very good that was made for Hexar RF, in M-mount. This goes for $600-800?
also new Cosina/Zeiss 35mm f/2, brand new for $850 i think.
if you’re willing to sacrifice an f/stop, then Cosina/Voigtlander has several different 35mm f/2.5 versions on the market. their fast one, the f/1.7, i thought was soft. they also have a super-fast 35mm f/1.2.
also older Leica 35mm f/2.8 Summaron, those are decent lenses around $400-600. they also had Leica 35mm f/3.5 Summaron but that’s really getting too slow i think…
finally there are the 40mm lenses, Leica 40mm f/2 Summicron, Minolta 40mm f/2 Rokkor (these two are essentially the same lens made for the Leica/Minolta CL/CLE collaboration in the 1970s but the lenses work fine on all M-mount cameras). These can be as cheap as $300.
and new Cosina/Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4. a bargain under $400 brand new!
All of the 40mm lenses bring up the 50mm framelines on the Leica. So you know photo will be a bit wider than shown. Or you can permanently modify the lens to bring up the 35mm framelines but then you know photo is a bit tighter than shown.
