Dear Lightstalking friends:
Overload: Photographing the Iraq War opens Sept. 30 in upstate Johnson City, New York (near Binghamton). Venue information at http://spoolmfg.org
The goal is to bring a balance of strong photojournalism and multimedia about the Iraq war to a “normal” American audience in upstate New York.
The prints and projections are by: Ghaith Abdul-Ahad, Lynsey Addario, Ed Kashi/mediastorm.org, Andrew Lichtenstein & Zac Barr/mediastorm.org, Benjamin Lowy, Lucian Read and Stefan Zaklin—plus a reading room featuring a bonus print by Peter van Agtmael and books by Nina Berman, Tyler Hicks, Bruno Stevens, Tony Suau, VII, TIME Magazine, Geert van Kesteren, American soldiers (GQ), etc.
You’re all most welcome to come—“normal” or not:) - and of course to get the word out, particularly if you know people near Binghamton, New York (Syracuse, Ithaca, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Catskills, Elmira, etc.).
We’re trying to reach as many people as possible. If any of you have connections to local media outlets or educational institutions in the area, it would be great if you could forward this on and/or put me in touch with them.
Show opens Sept. 30 and runs through Oct. 28. Opening reception Sept. 30 7PM-Midnight. Closing reception Oct. 28 7PM-Midnight. In between, hours are 4-7 PM on Fridays and 1-6 PM Saturdays and Sundays.
Directions from New York (2.5 hour drive): If you feel like a Catskills drive, you can head to route 17 west and jump to step 3, otherwise the interstate is faster. . .
1. Take 80 West into Pennsylvania then take 380 North towards Scranton. 2. At Scranton merge with 81 North. 3. At Binghamton take Route 17 West to exit 70S—Route 201 South. 4. At the traffic circle take Floral Avenue. 5. Take a left onto Baldwin Street. 6. Take right into parking lot just after train tracks.
