Patrick McDermott is a photojournalist with a passion for documentary sports photography. Raised in Washington, D.C., he went on to earn a B.A. from Colgate University with a double major in Marine-Freshwater Science and Fine Art & Art History. After spending a winter working in the mountains of Colorado, he decided to follow his heart into photojournalism. He has had the privilege to be an intern photographer at Getty Images and United Press International. He was a student at the Eddie Adams Workshop Barnstorm XXIII.
His work has been prominently featured in and distributed through Getty Images, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and CNN, amongst others. He has photographed the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games and the 2011 AMGEN Tour of California. On the editorial side, he has covered the 2008 Presidential election and the Washington, D.C. political circuit, including the White House.
Beyond his education and work experience, he has lived in New York City, Los Angeles, Colorado, and Washington, D.C. Over the years his passion for photography has taken him around the world, from the high Himalayas to the Islands of Hawaii.
Patrick is available to travel anywhere in the world to pursue his passion of capturing images that convey the world of sports through its subtle beauty.
