About

Paula Leite has been a photographer and researcher for over eight years. She began her career as a cinematographer assistant for numerous documentaries and Brazilian features. In 2002 Paula became a stringer for the Brazilian national newspaper, O Estado de Sao Paulo/ Agencia Estado. There she started as an intern, then Photographer for Rio de Janeiro’s branch and later served as international correspondent based in the UK. Currently Paula is working for Reuters in London as Photo Sub Editor for the UKI. She has also been developing personal projects and commissioned works. Paula is a member of the IPRN – International Photography Research Network.
Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Paula was awarded a full scholarship to join the MA in Photographic Journalism, University of Westminster, UK with Colin Jacobson. Paula is graduated in Cinema and Journalism, Institute of Arts and Communication, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and she has also attended the Department of Photography at the School of Visual Arts, New York. She has worked as a photographer for several organizations including receiving commissioned work from the Tate Britain Museum, SW1 Gallery, _BBC Comic Relief Agence France Presse and others. Paula’s photographs have been awarded and exhibited in private and collective exhibitions worldwide. Before becoming Photo Sub-Editor at Reuters, as Pictures Marketing Executive Paula worked on the development of Reuters’ photography books, exhibitions and has also been a visiting researcher at Reuters New York branch and Reuters Paris Magazine desk developing photographic concepts from Reuters pictures archive. In 2007, Paula was also visiting researcher on exhibition designing at the Guggenheim Museum, New York. Besides consultancy projects, Paula has been interested in multimedia and web based approaches to documentary photography. Paula is currently working on her Critical Spaces, a long term installation project experimenting different Medias and challenging documentary photography today.
