I’ve always liked taking photographs. It started when my dad gave me an old Minolta SRT101, film and a bunch of books I read many times.
My first photo job was at the Cleveland (Tenn.) Daily Banner. I loved it and enrolled at Western Kentucky University earning my BA in photojournalism in 2000.
During college, I interned at the Ogden (Utah) Standard Examiner, worked for The College Heights Herald, and became the black & white lab manager of the department photo lab. During my last year and a half, I worked for the Bowling Green (Ky.) Daily News starting as lab assistant and worked my way into a full-time staff photographer position.
Upon graduation I started at the Enid (Okla.) News & Eagle and then in September 2001, was hired by the Aspen (Colo.) Times where I worked for over 7 years. During the spring of 2004 and 2005, taught a photojournalism course at Colorado Mountain College at the Spring Valley campus.
My work has been published in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, Seattle P-I, Seattle Times and many others. I’ve freelanced for some of these newspapers as well as the Associated Press, and magazines such as Aspen Magazine, Aspen Peak, Aspen Sojourner, New York Times Magazine, The London Independent, Science et Vie, and many others.
I also freelance for Getty Images and World Picture News photo agencies.
I live in the Seattle, WA, area and am accepting assignments in the Pacific northwest and southern British Columbia.
