Perpignan Gathering of Lightstalkers Now Set!

I finally have gotten the pieces put together. Here is the info:

Day and Time: Wednesday, September 3, 7-9 p.m.
Place: Café République; 2, Place de la République

MAP

This place was suggested by Claude Sarda, the former owner of the wine bar where we gathered year before last, and he helped make the arrangements. Claude is now a marketing executive (Directeur Commercial) with Domaine LaFage, a top-quality Catalane winery.

Now, here is the good stuff: Claude is going to donate some of LaFage’s wines to this event! I don’t know how much or what kinds, but if you want to take advantage of his and his company’s generosity, you should come early. Otherwise, you will have to buy your own.

All Lightstallkers and their guests/companions/spouses/etc. are invited. We look forward to making actual the virtual contacts we all have enjoyed with each other.

Who will come?

See you there.

There are wonderful opportunities to see works like Nicolas’ throughout Perpignan, so keep your eyes open and be sure to hit those places. This is especially the case when they have little opening parties like his, with free nibbles and drinks.. You’ll be very surprised who is there. It’s also a great time to spend some quality time with very good shooters like Nicolas.

I’ll hopefully be there for my first Perpignan, and first LS meeting. Please bear with my naive questions. I’m there to learn so if I sit there being all quiet I’m just listening intently!

Neal it was largely your response in the thread below that swung it for me so I guess I need to shout you that drink…yes, from a Scotsman!

OK all. My bag is (almost) packed, and I’m looking for my passport! So I will bump this up for the last time, just in case anyone missed it before.

Hi All not sure if i will be able to make the party but….Does anyone know if I can hire a bicycle in Perpignan?
This year as the last I will be staying a bit out of the main town and would like to arrive at the Palm hotel during breakfast in time to get the free orange juice, coffee and crossiants before all the other greedy photographers take it all!

No need for it to be great, actually the worse it looks the less likely it is to get stolen.

Anyone know a place in Perpignan?

Cheers

Mark

Yes, I do, Mark, strangely enough. You can rent a bicycle from M. Saniette’s shop on the Rue Verdurin, but you must call ahead for an appointment. The problem is that M. Saniette doesnt like to rent his bicycles and so has no phone; you must call his cousin Alfred in Kansas City, Missouri, first. Alfred, however, is extremely deaf and will only contact his cousin if he is first paid off in Virginia ham, the bigger the ham the better. The other problem is, of course, that Alfred is seldom home these days, what with his charity work for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Asparagus; you can talk to his housekeeper, Celeste, if you want, but she has troubles of her own and probably won’t be much of a help one way or the other. In short, you’re probably better off using a pogo stick, if you can find one, or just walking, which is better for your health anyway. Hope this helps! ;-)

by Akaky | 30 Aug 2008 19:08 | New York , United States |
Akaky…HA! Personally I have trouble getting past New Jersey much less the south of France. Everyone else (yes that includes you Mr. Jackson)…have fun, keep cool, and stay somewhat sober. :)

by Gregory Sharko | 30 Aug 2008 21:08 | Brooklyn, New York, United States |
Thank you Olivier, if I get my bike early I may make it to the wine tasting although I will stick to Coca Cola.

Akay just in case all the bikes in Perpignan are out whats Alfreds phone number in Kansas City?

by Mark Seager | 30 Aug 2008 21:08 | London, United Kingdom |
I think it’s (816) 761-3233, Mark, but I wouldnt swear to it. Alfred has become much less dependable since he started this whole asparagus thing. And M. Saniette thinks that his cousin is more than vaguely odd; being a supporter of vegan rights is one thing, being a vegetables rights advocate is more than a bit beyond M. Saniette’s political comfort zone, M. Saniette being a long time Orleanist.

by Akaky | 30 Aug 2008 22:08 | New York , United States |
Akay I called Alfred to see if he had any bikes for rent and all I got was some moaning and groaning.
I was then asked by a very slight voice if I wanted to have a good time for $50. I asked if this was Alfred and he/she/they put the phone down! I can only assume they have no bikes for rent!

Thanks anyway

by Mark Seager | 31 Aug 2008 10:08 | London, United Kingdom |
just come back to my hotel from registering at the Hotel Pams and have seen tons of bikes that all look the same so i assume that they are from a single rental place. While i havent asked who the rental agents are there are many of these bikes about the town so I am pretty sure that it wont be too difficult to find one
