Perpignan! Tonight 7 p.m.! Lightstalkers Together!
|
Tonight’s the night! 7 – 9 p.m. All is in place. It will be at Café République; 2, Place de la République. It’s on the north side of the place, behind the projection screen.

MAP
Claude Sarda, the former owner of the wine bar where we gathered year before last, and now Directeur Commercial of Domaine LaFage, a top-quality Catalane winery will be there with free wines for the first-comers. If you want to take advantage of his and his company’s generosity, you should come early. Afterwards, you will have to buy your own.
All Lightstallkers and their guests/companions/spouses/etc. are invited.
Let’s have a good showing…Claude (and I) have done our best to make this be a fun few hours.

The Irish contingent will be in attendance, fulfilling stereotypes by queuing with pint glasses. See ya there.
|
wish you crazy kids the BEST! have a blast, and I wish I could be there…
|
Have a good workshop there !
|
Wish I were there..have a drink for me, Neal..

Breaking News! Record attendance at the get-together!
In fact in the space we had the group was too large to capture with a single shot using a 35mm lens. So we may have to resort to a PS stitch job if we have a group photo. All (I think) had a marvelous time. People came early and stayed late. Claude’s excellent wines flowed like water, even after he stopped the freebies. Of course as predicted the sizeable Celtic (Irish, Scottish and Breton) contingent switched to malt beverages.
More later after there is time to post photos (of which there were many).

Damn, missed this gig again…
|
Show me the snaps! Grmpf!!!!
|
Thank you, Aga! Wonder who that guy is in the dweeby hat! The other guy is Claude Sarda who, with his winery and Erick of the Cafe Republique made sure everyone got at least one glass of excellent wine from Domain LaFage.
Perpignan is an intense, packed experience. We will get photos up as soon as there is time to do so.
|
Wish I could’ve afforded to be there, but I’ve been living in poverty for about the past four years.
Perhaps next year, after I find a sponsor.
|
Neal… great! I am looking forward to see our group photo :-)
ps. I am jealous you are still in Perpignan ;-) Have fun at the final party!
|
It was great to see you and Sandra again Neal. Thanks for organising an amazing LS get together once again.
It was fun and I had a great time. Cheers!

Well, as those of you who were there will remember, Sandra (my wife) was taking lots of pics and I have just downloaded them. The lens she had only went down to 35mm so she could not get a single pic of everybody and instead took several of the mass of people.
But wait! Fabien Penso, whose Photoshop skills are substantial, has agreed to try to stitch the pic together. So I am sending them to him tonight, and he says he will attack them tomorrow for posting.
|
send them to Philip Blenkinsop, he also like stitching pics together :)
|
Ha ha, Bruno. Glad you got home OK…..
For those who weren’t there, Philip won a big Visa award this year. Several of his winning pics were panoramas of industrial sites in China that were stitched together
|
Thanks again Neal for organizing. It wouldn’t have been the same without your efforts!
best,
Charlie

Okay, it’s official: I’m depressed. Everyone is having a good time and doing the Perpignan thing and I’m here in our happy little burg sweating like Mrs Murphy’s prize pig and the nearest place that starts with a P is Poughkeepsie and I dont feel like driving over there just so the towtrucks can compete to see who gets to snatch my car first. Life is unfair sometimes.
|
thanks again neal! see you again soon, i hope!
|

You can see them on my flickr feed and add note to put yourself. And no I ain’t on it because I arrived at 9PM :)
|
Wow, great pictures – so many new friends in there too!
|
Sandra (Neal’s wife) did take the pictures, I just use my flickr to be able to add notes.
|
Wow! Great job stitching, Fabien!
Please everyone in the pic…go to Fabien’s Flickr site and, using the “note” feature, add your name and that of anyone else you recognize.
This is the link to Fabien’s Fickr photo. Look above the pic and click on “Add Note.” Then move and shrink the square, then add your name.
|
I’ll try anyway I’m the one next to that guy in the dweeby hat. :)
Thank you for the wine.. ops… for the meeting :).but especially for the pic.
|
That was a fun time alright. If anyone gets a change, try the wine that was provided, it was quite fantastic.

BTW, some of you I know had to leave before the end of Visa. But as it turned out you did not miss the final act…because of rain the final slide show and the all-night party were canceled. Of course there were more than a few of the usual suspects trying to compensate in various Perpignan watering holes (including the Cafe de la Post).
Here is the e-mail we received from J-F:
Dear friends,
Jean-François Leroy, Sylvie Grumbach and the whole Visa pour l’Image and 2e Bureau team want to thank you for your understanding. Saturday night, we had to cancel the screening and the closing party for security reasons. The rain damaged some of the electrical wires and we decided to take no risks for our technical team and for the audience.
You are Visa pour l’Image…
We care about your !
See you next year !
Thanks.
Jean-François Leroy

Would have been handy if the organisers would have sent out an SMS to all attendees on Saturday night, explaining what was happening – there was a lot of confusion around town, and rumours and counter-rumours. All that was needed a couple of upturned 2CVs, some molotovs and a party of CRS-types, and there could have been a full-scale riot outside the Couvent de Minimes. But in the end, the Cafe de la Poste saved the night…
