Photo Essay | Your thoughts | My first one

Hey,

Should you have a minute or two. Have a look at my photo essay.

It’s my first one and I am looking for input or reviews from those in the know.

It’s not in a formal style or typical essay format. It’s random thoughts, memories and words.

Thank you in advance.

The Island of Bad Christmas

Too stupid to comment on the whole which leaves me unmoved, but have a stupid idea: the cockfighting blades could use a bit of help to take out the excessive red.

Well my opinion is that except 2-3 photos, what i saw was kind of conventional and obvious.

No surprises, no speculations.
A typical approach of a advantageous subject.

I too was unmoved. You need to shake it up some. Rather generic. Get closer. Get deeper. Were you moved?

A couple of thoughts:

First of all Malapascua in spanish it doesn’t means Bad Christmas but Bad Easter…

Second i think the all essay is a bit bland you need to reshuffle the things a bit and do a new edit where you need to leave some space for people to be surprised or intrigued by your images as a whole.

Many cheers,

Armando

Thank you for all the replies so far.

Armando – All the locals and write ups about Malapascua suggest the name to mean Bad Christmas…

Jonnek – which 2-3 photos did you like?

Paul – Do you suggest less text and more photos? Yes, I was moved my the Island and it’s people that is why I am hanging out my b&**s here for all to rip appart. I want to get it right. I want to tell people about what I felt there.
How the simple things made me re-think how I was running my life.

Stupid Photographer – Thanks for you input. I wanted the blade photo to be like that. Cheers anyway.

Thanks all. Keep it coming.

Don’t tell. Show!

You are technically competent, for sure, now forget all that and shoot from the soul. Dig deep buddy. Don’t just look for pictures, listen for them. Sniff them out. Use all your senses. Your heart should be skipping beats now and then. When you feel this happening, then you’re making a start. You’ve got to emote. Emote already!

Very glad to hear you’re happy with your blades. Only reason I stupidly spoke up about them is that without the smart title and without stupidly pulling the image off the web and removing some of the excessive red myself, I had no idea what the smart photo was. But I’m very happy for you, since that must be exactly what you smartly intended for your stupid audience to see and do.

I liked the b/w one with the 4 children in a row, the hand close up with the chicken leg and the money, and the two middle-age men in front of the wooden house.

Bond you surtainly got an eye. (It could be easier for us to discover it though, if the thumbnails of yours where clickable, not just thumbnails..)

Anyway, the only thing that i could (or should) suggest to you is to have faith and trust of what you are doing, by keepin doin it, while you getting experience and cofidence travelling into time and conditions.

Having also the eye that i mentioned before, everything can then happen.

Good luck.
