Photo Exhibit on Iraqi Refugee Crisis by Gabriela Bulisova

It’s Fw’d message from our pdfX12’s(http://reminders-project.org) upcoming contributor, Gabriela Bulisova(http://www.photoshelter.com/user/gabrielabulisova) about her photo exhibition starting from tomorrow!.

--Fw’d message starts-
We would like to invite you to a photo exhibit by Ms. Gabriela Bulisova highlighting the Iraqi refugee crisis on Wednesday, April 30 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in room 2220 of the Rayburn House Office Building(http://www.aoc.gov/cc/cc_map.cfm). (NOTE: Speaking program will take place from 5:30-6:00 p.m.)

Ms. Bulisova, a documentary photographer and adjunct professor at the Corcoran College of Art and Design recently returned from Syria, where she captured images of Iraqi refugees. Her photo exhibit places a human face on this humanitarian crisis in an effort to bring greater attention to the plight of Iraqi refugees on Capitol Hill.

Additionally, Ken Bacon, President of Refugees International (RI), who recently released a report entitled, “Uprooted and Unstable: Meeting Urgent Humanitarian Needs in Iraq,” will be in attendance. RI will provide Members and staff with up-to-date information on this humanitarian crisis.

As a result of the widespread sectarian violence that erupted in Iraq in 2006, two million Iraqis fled, primarily to Syria and Jordan, and 2.77 million have become displaced within their own country. This is the largest displacement of people in the region since 1948.

Militia groups within Iraq are providing substantial assistance to displaced Iraqis. And host countries such as Jordan and Syria are dealing with an increasingly desperate refugee population. This increased desperation, combined with resentment among host country populations, is a recipe for disaster.

This event will be extremely informative and therefore, we hope that you will be able to join us.
