Photo Mechanic and .RAW Files
Hey all,
In my current workflow, I use PM for my first (rough) edit, create a folder for the “in” images, then import those into Aperture (from my external HD). It’s been working well for me until now… I’ve just started shooting with an LX2 and PM is not recognizing it’s .RAW files. So, when I create my new folder and drag the marked images into it, only the jpgs move. I’ve searched the preferences and can’t find anything and I’d hate to have to switch applications… again. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

send sample raw files from your lx2 to Camerabits support. They can usually include new “files/formats” in updated versions.

They also have an active listserve which people from the company troll all the time, answering technical questions usually within a couple of hours. I suspect it is the same folks that answer the support desk referred to by Cameron above, but, hey, ask ‘em twice….

I asked about LX2 Raw files at the end of last year and uploaded some sample images… After inspecting them they informed me:
“I had a look at the RAW file. It contains no thumbnail or preview data that I can find. It is just EXIF, TIFF tables, and uncompressed RAW sensor data.
We are unable to add support for your image type at this time. I’ll talk to Dennis about at least associating the .RAW file with an existing JPEG which would at least allow you to use Photo Mechanic for managing the files and for launching them with your RAW converter of choice.”
I’m not sure whether or not they ever completed that last part. Like Neal said, write them an email… they’re a very responsive company. Or write a post in their forums:

Art,
This may not be an ideal solution for you, but could you convert the LX2 RAW files to DNG?

Thanks for the replies! I’ll send camerabits an email to see if there’s a way to attach the two files like they mentioned to Ben. That would do what I want. Also, Brian, that’s not a bad idea. If I could create an automator script for that and incorporate it into my initial image “dump” from the card, it would be fine. Thanks again!!
