16-35mm F2.8L USM problems

I am a little new to this site, so forgive this post if it is in the wrong contex etc..

My problem is a reacurring lock-up with the zoom on my lens. The symptoms are simply that the zoom gets ‘stuck’ at a non-specific length (in this case 35mm) and then refuses to move. I have had it fixed once without an synopsis on what the problem actually was, but now its back and im in the middle of bloody Sri Lanka!! Can anyone help? It doesn’t strike me as a common problem with a lens of this calibre but perhaps someone has had a similar experience?

does the zoom ring refuse to rotate, say from 35 to 16mm or does the problem seem internal? i have the same lens and have never had an issue with it. hope things work out.

thanks for your response Bryan… and yep. the zoom ring refuses to rotate – im not sure what this suggests, perhaps a more superficial problem say with the zoom ring itself?
