Dear friends I am writing this on new years day, 6:50 am, EST, hoping that all of us will be strong and clear in 2005. I think the one heartening thing about the tsunami is the empathetic response of individuals worldwide. Without the images, televised and still, this global outpouring of help wouldnt have happened. Photojournalism has as much importance as ever.

Peace, Stephen

Tolerance of other cultures and beliefs of others including our own beliefs from the outside world is what I hope photojournalism can teach us.

Money and Power imho appear to be the biggest killers of people and the photojournalist layes his life on the line everyday at home and abroad. They should get the same kind of neutral respect and protection the UN and the Swiss are able to command.

We are indebted to Daniel Pearl and all the others who have given their lives to show the world that even though we are different we are also very much the same.

The scope of the tsunami disaster could never be imagined and the level of assistance may not have gone out to help with the suffering were it not for the reporting.

We can all help now and be an active part of the rescue with the technological advances of our time.

Sorry if this sounds a bit like the answer to a Miss America question but in the short 5 years of this century we have seem some incredible suffering.

Thank you Didi and no it isn’t Ms Denver :)

Ken (or is that Ms Denver — kidding, kidding):

Agree with everything you’ve taken the time to tap out above & think it should probably be part of the FAQ somewhere.

As an American, who has grown embarrassed to say that aloud over the last too many years, I am glad to see so many caring Americans here & the interest in helping overseas disaster victims has actually pushed the evil empire to give more than lip-service & smirk in the wake of this latest catastrophe.

To all on this board who are persevering in their own ways (wherever you are on the globe) you have our respect and thanks for spreading your kindness and compassion amongst humanity.

Kudos to you,
