50,000 Euro award announced for Gaza photojournalism

We have word from that Carmignac Gestion one of the leading independent fund management companies in Europe. who announce the first annual “Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award†worth 50,000 euros. Deadline for entries 15 September.
Carmignac Gestion will also provide its full backing for the photojournalist to develop, promote and distribute the reportage. An exhibition will be organised within 12 months of the Prize being awarded and a monographic book presenting the award-winner’s work will be published.
The world’s future balance and stability hinge in particular on today’s areas facing armed conflict. For this reason, the proposed subject for the 2009 Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award is: The Gaza Strip

This is fantastic, but can preference go to local photographers, or the prize split in two? If we truly are interested in “bettering the world” we need to start by empowering people to tell the story of their own communities, especially in the Gaza where people like Fady Adwan have done such an amazing job covering recent events…and the community so needs resources like these grants.
