AFGHANISTAN: GIVING WOMEN A VOICE
with Photographer Paula Lerner

Plenty of news stories out of Afghanistan cover the ongoing insurgency and the hardships of war. But few tell of how people are rebuilding their lives in war's aftermath.

Over the last three years Boston area Photographer Paula Lerner has made multiple trips to Afghanistan to document the lives of women in that country. During her travels she has covered the work of the Business Council for Peace (www.bpeace.org), an organization that helps women in post-conflict countries set up self-sustaining businesses. Profiles of a group of unusual business women in Kabul were presented as a multimedia feature Lerner did in collaboration with the washingtonpost.com web site. At this event, Lerner will show "The Women of Kabul," published on the Washington Post site, as well as debut "Hidden Lives," a new multimedia piece on women in Kandahar. Both of these features give women in different walks of life a chance to tell their powerful stories, opening a window on a world that has been largely unknown or closed to Western observers.

Please join us for a lively presentation and discussion.
