Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award

The 2010 ARMA will be run at The Art Room, Rose Hill Primary School, Oxford. The Art Room is a charity which offers art as therapy to children and young people aged 5 – 16 to raise their self-esteem, self confidence and independence. Many of the students have specific learning difficulties or have had an interrupted education. Some have recently arrived in this country, some are prime carers within their family, others are ‘looked-after’ children (children in care). The work at the Art Room enables them to express themselves by engaging in different forms of creative artwork and provides an opportunity to reengage with mainstream education.

The winning artist will required to run 10 full day workshops held weekly on a Tuesday at The Art Room, working with children aged 5 – 11. The artist will be working with three groups of children during the day who will be remain the same over the ten week period.

These supplementary workshops will comprise of two half day family workshops open to children and their families plus an Open Day for the general public.

These workshops will be run as part of Modern Art Oxford’s Art in Rose Hill project. More information about Art in Rose Hill can be found at www.artinrosehill.org.uk Modern Art Oxford is the largest gallery devoted to modern and contemporary art in the South East.
