I just posted this info on an older thread but I thought I would also post it under its own heading so others might know of it. for those ofyou who are looking for ways to enter Cuba, this might be a possible route, through St domingo. While there were other means of flying from St Domingo to Havana besides Cubana, it looks like Cubana de Aviacion is the only option if you decide to take this route. I am still looking into it, and will let you all know if I come up with other options. Their website is useless, and they never answer their phones, so I went straight to their offices to get the following info:
There are flights from Las Americas Airport in St Domingo to Jose Marti Airport in Havana every thursday and Sunday. It leaves at 1:35 pm and arrives at 3:50pm. Returns from Cuba at 9.55 am arriving in St DOmingo at noon. Cost for a round trip flight is $409 US if the stay is for around a week, and $426 if you stay a month. You will have to buy a $15 US tourist visa before embarking. All of this is arranged at the office, and in fact there is no other way to arrange it (forget Etickets!). I dont know what the current cost of the flight to and from Mexico is, but it is probably no cheaper. Moreover, the flight on Jetblue from NY to Santiago, Dom Rep. is only a little more than a hundred bucks one way, so the entire cost is an attractive feature of this route.
