Hi Rony,
I’ll go there as well, see you then (and I ll fly thru KL… sorry not to join ur ride)
Best, Laurent
|
Rony,
I’m heading same place, same way for the same reasons. What date you leaving BKK? Jason
|
Hi Jason,
My flight will arrive on 15th midnight. So probably I will be heading to the border on the 16th early morning. I think the train to the border is leaving at 05.55 am.
|
I’m looking forward to my two weeks in Cambodia, showing photos of the Nepal Civil War. Apparently the photos will be blown up and projected on the side of a hotel. Hardly your typical south Asian vacation package, but then again, I wouldn’t flap my wings for 26 hours from Los Angeles if I didn’t think this was something special.
I think you’ll find a lot of festival attendees and participants on Lightstalkers – I’ve spoken to a few already.
P.S.
I hear Siem Reap’s fried spiders are the cat’s meow.

Guys dont worry about anything… u’ll be having Angels all around.
|
I’ll be there as well — looking forward to it.
|
There are buses from Bangkok straight to Siem Reap. It takes about 12 hours.
No need to stop in Pnomh Pen.
|
The normal fare is around 20$. For the visa it’s always better to take it at the embassy. Sometimes they make problems at the border it’s a question of luck…

I admit it’s difficult to know just looking at my portrait…
|

Sailendra: are you coming to the Festival? What dates? I’ll be there for the whole thing. It will be great to see you again. Kantipur will be well represented.
Francoise: Don’t lie. I have a good portrait of you lounging around your African sculpture.
|
Will be arriving Siem Reap from BKK on the night of the 17th. See you all there!
|
Stuart, on 23rd at 08.00pm there is a street party in front of Mc Dermott Gallery.
Everybody will be there.
|
“on 23rd at 08.00pm there is a street party "

@ Ajay:
When u reachin Siem Reap?? We can meet at the Airport then?
|
@Tunali: I will travelling by bus (with Seema) from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. So I wont be at Siem Reap airport. If you are going to be in Bangkok on 16th morning/afternoon, then I can maybe meet you in Bangkok. I take the 15:10 Air Asia flight out of BKK on the 16th.

lookin fwd to see u there :)
|
@Ajay
I’ve just read it. Unfortunately no, but will be there after midnight. Probably will stay at the airport for a while before going to the train station (Hua Takhe or Hualampong).
|
Hi Guys,
Look forward to meeting you all, I arrive on the 16th morning at SR. Going to be taking part in the workshops, coming from Sri Lanka.
Alefiya
|
hi Sailendra,
You can get a bus to reach Siem Reap from Khao San Road but I wouldn’t recommend that, a lot of scams according to stories.
Another way, you can get a bus from the Morcit Bus Station to Aranyaprathet Border. From the Poipet (Cambodian Side border) you can take a bus for $10 to SR or a shared taxi.
See you there,
Rony
|
Thanks Rony……
Very excited to meet you all…..
|
im leaving on 16th..cant wait to be there.meeting all you guys!
|
im counting on a visa on arrival at teh siem reap airport.
it isnt tough to get one right? the invitation letter i received from the festival shd be enough? or shd i not produce that at all, bearin in mind im applying for the tourist visa?
it wd be a bummer to fly all the way and be sent back home!
|
Hi Tunali,
I don’t think it would be a problem. I hear you can get a visa without much fuss. I just hope they dont harrass us about the equipment we will be carrying etc. Supposedly you need 2 photos for the US20 tourist visa, so might want to go handy with them. I also think you can apply for the visa in New Dehli. Call the ND consulate and check.
Ciao,
Alefiya
|
hey alefiya
its too late to apply for the visa now. it takes 3 days to process.
so i guess ill have to rely on v.o.a. and just hope for the best!
anyone reaching siem reap airport on 17th morning? We can hitch a ride to the fest?
also, is anyone flyin frm bkk- siem reap on 17th early morn? like 7 30am?
will be great to have company…
|
Francoise:.. je suis en train de faire un program intensive pour faire des films,..malheureusement ca tombe pas au bon moment. Promis l’annee prochaine je remplace christophe (eh ehe .. seulement pour la fete).
A bientot a Paris ou a bali
|
Vera, on t’attends donc en 2008. Je vais te faire signer un papier…
Je vais à Bali en Juin. Sampai ketemu lagi.
|
I’m not sure if I’m too late to help you Sailendra, but there is a 6:20 am train from Hau Lamphong in BKK to Aranya Prathet, its really cheap something like 45-60 baht if I remember and it takes about 6 hours. You can take a tuktuk from there for the short distance to the border and then get your visa. there is an ATM on the cambodian side where you can withdraw USD$.
depending on how well the cambodian border guard did at the casino on the weekend you can pay anywhere from $10-$20USD extra on top of the $20USD visa. from there I think it was usually about $10usd on a minibus to siem reap on a really shitty road.
have a good one
|
Hi Frens,
I will be travelling for Siem Reap on Nov.17 @ 7 am by bus and i will get the ticket from PILOT PURELY TOUR LTD., PART 139 Khaosan Road (about middle street on the left)
This Tour belongs to the Khaosan Palace Hotel…. So, any fren travelling on the same date and time in the morning of Nov.17…. Will love your company….
|
Francoise: je signerai avec mon ame.. tout pour la photo et l’amitie!!! good luck, (je note pour juin) bises fort
|
Hey, overland travelers (Thailand to Siem Reap), all you need to know (but might not want to know) is exhaustively written up here:
http://www.talesofasia.com/cambodia-overland.htm
Safe travels!
|
Thanks for those informations Christopher. I’m a little bit too busy to act also as a travel agency…
See you soon.
|
Hey Sailendra, you should just go to the eastern bus terminal in BKK. It will be cheaper and the bus won’t stop at the driver’s brothers restaurant for an hour. never understood how those khao san road buses are always full when the gov’t bus is cheaper and usually dead empty
|
Hi everybody. I’m currently working on assignment in southern cambodia. I can spend only 2 to 3 days in Siem Reap before going back down south and then to bangkok (flight back to europe)? Any advices about the best moment to go to the festival? Thanks.
|
Hi Susanna, try to come around 24th, it’s waterfestival and full moon.
|
Thanks a lot. I can manage to have two days off.
