Anyone heading to (or leaving from) Libya within the next few days?

Hey, currently based in Benghazi, running out of cash, no ATMs operational in the country.

If anyone is coming in and could do me a huge favor – I need money, USD preferable, $1500 would be ideal but anything is ok. You bring the cash, I paypal you the money (and cover fees if applicable), you check your paypal to make sure its in your account, you then hand over the money (I’m quick, don’t try to run).

Other possibility – If you are leaving Libya and want to get rid of some Dinars as no sensible bank in the world wants to exchange them, I’ll buy them off you at the current street sell rate (not hotel sell rate). Guaranteed better than the street buy rate (and way better than the hotel buy rate).

Last time you pulled this in Haiti as I remember. Ran out of money, etc. Personally, reading your tweets I have no doubt that you are crazy and either have a death wish or want to get raped in the ass by Quadaffi loyalists…..but its your life David. Enjoy it.

I am sure you can find someone in Benghazi for this transaction. Do a search in the town, the more sensible thing to do. As Andy wrote, enjoy it.

Andy – No death wish (certainly no ass rape wish). Don’t know what you’re on about, Benghazi is getting sketchy for everybody here and there are quite a few people at the front line every day.

Daniel – I’ve asked around a little, will do more but not many people carrying an extra non-needed $1500 especially with prices for drivers having doubled-tripled and likely to continue going up. Figured I’d give it a shot here before taking the long road back to Egypt to hit the bank.

I will be in Cairo on route Benghazi. How best to get there from Heliopolis airport? and what is the rate for drivers at present?

Anton -

Drivers are all over the place depending on what you need, level of English, quality of car, attitude of guy, position of the stars in the sky. Current front line route is Benghazi – Ajdabiya (a few km out from the eastern gate). These days 100 Dinar round trip is a good price for a dude with a crappy car trying to get by, 150-200 average, 300 for a proper driver who may not ditch you in the desert when the shelling starts, 400 for a professional fixer/driver. Free if you catch a ride with some rebels but if taking the main road its smarter to change vehicles before within range of Gadaffi’s tanks. Hitchhiking with rebels back to the city after your driver ditches you is always free, theyre generally nice people. Avoid cars full of smartass kids.

Perhaps a stupid question (I’ve never done that area before)…. how are you guys doing VISA arrangements? Or are you 007ing into the country?

Good luck and stay safe
