Anyone need an assistant in NYC this summer?

I just got an unpaid internship at ICP… if I can fund expenses for the summer.

So I was wondering if anyone has any paid work in NYC, or if they perhaps know of anyone who needs an assistant of some kind?

Little bit about me: I currently go to Bard College, where I study Human Rights. I want to be a documentary photographer/photojournalist. My post-college plan is to get some kind of job, save up money, and try to fund a project of some kind (I have a multimedia project I’ve been cooking up about drone strikes in Yemen and Pakistan… but it’s too dangerous and I’m too green and inexperienced). Ideally I want to spend a lot of time with a people or community, like months or years, and tell their story. Maybe a dying town along the Salton Sea. Maybe a border-town in Israel/Palestine. Maybe an enclave of entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

But, now is my time to learn and gain experience and work my ass off before I get the chance to do those things.

Here is some of my work: http://www.flickr.com/photos/autumnjazz/sets/72157633465111250/

Hi Jesse,

Valeri Nistratov, internationally recognized documentary photographer and educator from Russia www.valerinistratov.com, is looking for a partner to go for a trip NY – Pennsylvania – Ohio-Indiana?-Tennessee-Alabama?-Florida in July of 2013. He plans to work on his new series about the USA.

He is willing to share his experience as a photographer and educator with a student/ young photographer, who would not mind to drive and share gas and accommodation expenses. If a student/photographer has own idea for a project in the same area, he would me more than happy to help with shaping idea, photographic style, etc. Valeri speaks English.

Valeriy Nistratov is the author of 4 books (one of them in collaboration with Jason Eskenazi), his photographs were exhibited in Russia, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the USA, Mexico, South Africa, Japan, China and other countries. Valeri Nistratov has been teaching documentary photography course in the Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia.

The main themes of Valeri Nistratov’s photographic research is: local identity, mentality and consciousness of post-soviet and modern russian people, social environment, overpopulation and man-altered landscape.

Please contact if interested – valnistr@gmail.com.

Thank you Valeri. Unfortunately, I don’t have the savings or time to travel with you. Which is too bad, that sounds like exactly the kind of trip/experience that I’m looking for. (I actually want to do something similar to that next summer.)

Thank you for the offer, though! I’ll be sure to follow your work, as well.
