581 Photographs by Aric Mayer August 5-September 30, 2006 Gallery Bienvenu, New Orleans, LA 518 Julia Street p 504.525.0518 On September 4, 2005, I entered New Orleans on an open assignment with The Wall Street Journal. In the process of delivering daily breaking news images, I carried a Hasselblad 905 SWC and made an extensive body of medium format photographs focusing on the city and surrounding parishes. The work traces an arc across the city, starting in Lakeview and ending in Plaquemines Parish. A selection of these photographs are presented along with wilderness landscapes, some from the nearby Atchafalaya Basin, in an exhibition that explores our complex visual relationship with images of the landscape and catastrophe.
