Best Uplink in Western Hemisphere
|
Plain and simple – what is the best uplink set-up for my global escapades? I need some wisdom based on experience.
I typically upload 2 to 3 dozen 15 meg files at a time, and those are just the stills – I may also have the opportunity to shoot some stringer video if I can get it out in close-to-realtime.
Am I on the right track that Thuraya and Inmarsat are my basic choices? And if so, what packages and pricing does anyone suggest?
Major thanks, Michael.

You may want to re-think your image size uploads, 3 dozen 15 meg files is going to cost upwards of $6,500. You may also want to take a comfy chair, or better still a sofa& 540 megs at 6-8 kbps is going to keep you and the bgan busy for a long time.

Oh my god. The budget news is bad enough, but 6 to 8 kbps? I think the postal service might be faster…
Sounds like I need to stay within range of land-based cellular systems where there is no bit-count and the throughput is 56k or better.
Thanks so much for the enlightenment .

Try RBGan or Hi speed DSL, I have to regularly upload on the fly…still images go faster than video does…and so we have to compress the file into . AVI files…offcourse at a huge price in terms of quality. The trick in video is not to have a lot of information per frame…huh ? Well, silly as it may sound, avoid pans, zooms and crowded streets, steady frames take a far less time….but then can we always choose the frames ? Cheers and all the best !
