Books about the wandering life?

A teacher friend was teaching a class on being a correspondent/writer/photographer in the modern world and I gave her 2 titles;

“My War Gone By, I Miss It So”, by Anthony Loyd,

“I Wouldn’t Start from Here; The 21st Century and where it all went wrong”, by Andrew Mueller.

Any other suggestions?

The Anthony Loyd book is one of the best, especially if contemplating drug use as an inspirational tool. It may not be in the same category but I’ve just enjoyed reading Paul Theroux’s ‘The Tao of Travel,’ which covers a lot of related topic areas. Perusing my book shelves, from a somewhat different era, although still relevant, there’s Michael Herr’s ‘Dispatches.’ ‘The education of a photographer’ – Traub, Heller and Bell – is another. Maybe I’m drifting off topic somewhat but Pico Iyer’s ‘The Global Soul,’ certainly inspired me. He’s also given an interesting talk online on ‘TED Talks’.
Hope that helps.

Hi John,

do you think Bruce Chatwin’s and Tiziano Terzani’s books would qualify in this case?

I like “Vagabonding,” by Rolf Potts, though it’s not specifically for photographers and writers.
