I want to let all lightstalkers know my predicament so they don’t make the same mistake.
As some of you may have read on PDN or in this months American Photo, I was put on fleshbot.com and from that blog my site got on numerous blog sites around the world. In a matter of days I had over 125,000 visitors and exceeded my bandwidth and was forced to shut my site down.
Earthlink was my provider (currently very happy with the services of Shinji) and they assured me that I was doing everything according to policy however they have put their foot down and are refusing to waiver the charge of $3490.34.
I just spent the morning literally weeping to the supervisor for an hour and explained that I followed all of the instructions they gave me: increasing my bandwidth to the maximum and shutting the site down when I could no longer sustain it.
They don’t care and the charge is on my credit card so I’m basically screwed.
Don’t let this happen to you. Keep an eye on your websites, you never know when it can spike.
If you have email with earthlink, I urge you to cancel your service as I will be doing as well.
If any of you have suggestions for me as to how to get out of my bind, or would like to send a donation ; ) I greatly appreciate it.
