Past contributors to Slideluck Potshows include: The Guggenheim Foundation, Elliott Erwitt, Chris Jordan, Todd Hido, Elinor Carucci, Martin Schoeller, Alec Soth, Chris Buck, Alistair Thain, Spencer Tunick, Alex Majoli, Martin Parr, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Bruce Gilden, Nina Berman, Vincent Laforet and many others.

So get those submissions in by November 9th, then whip up your famous seven-layer dip, lobster ravioli, papaya salad, honey-glazed ham, or raspberry cheesecake and come check out a slammin’ slideshow!

Thank you for your time. We look forward to seeing you and yours on November 21st. Spread the word! Good times guaranteed.

Warm Regards,
SLPS Austin

Andy it would really be great to have you.

Also that same weekend is the East Austin Studio Tour (EAST) which Matt and I are both showing work in along with hundreds of Austin artists, including Erin Trieb. Here’s the web-site: http://www.eastaustinstudiotour.com/

It’s about 550 miles from New Orleans to Austin so you can count on 8 hours each way and about $200 in gas r/t, depending on what kind of mileage your car gets. And if you can strap a bike to your car I’d recommend it, especially for EAST. I’ve never flown to New Orleans, only driven, but I’m sure the flights are fine.

And I’m sure you’ll have plenty of options for places to stay, including my place. Alan was just here a couple of weeks ago, and once we got the shower working again I think he found it just fine. :)

Come on into town Andy, it’ll be a great time and we’d love to have you!

The Deadline has been extended to NOVEMBER 14, 2008, 11:59pm

We look forward to receiving your projects!!

Here are detailed submission guidelines:

Thank you for your interest in showing work at the Austin Slideluck Potshow. Presentations are a maximum of 5 minutes each, but most are much shorter, and we recommend between 15-40 images.  We accept work in digital format only.  We encourage all types of media that can be presented within this framework, be it painting, sculpture, or installation art.  However, they must be comprised mainly of still images – no film or video will be considered, although multimedia pieces using video as punctuation can be submitted.  When presenting photographs, there are many ways to go about it. One should not be afraid of making thoughtful observations on the theme, creating narratives, combining live music, speaking, or even performing with images.  We want to see good work, but it need not be safe.  Show us work in progress, outtakes from a job or if that makes you uneasy, show us your absolute finest work, because we like that too.
Because of the overwhelming number of submissions we receive, we now curate the slideshows to keep it at at a maximum of 90 minutes.  We will mainly be judging the submissions on range and diversity of subject matter.  Our intent is to be inclusive and to provide as many people the possibility for expression as possible, and if we are unable to include your work for the show you originally submitted, we will always keep your work in mind for future shows. That said, try to be cognizant of your audience and please exercise discipline in your editing process!

*In our continued effort to provide a platform for multimedia storytelling, we are now also accepting multi-media pieces.  These pieces should be mainly comprised of still imagery, but have a production level beyond simply images and one-track sound. Please see below for details about Multimedia submission guidelines.

1. All images should be in JPEG format.
2. All images must be in an RGB colorspace – they look best in sRGB but even if they are black and white images they must be RGB and not grayscale.
3. Your images should be 1024 × 768 pixels @ 300dpi.  Vertical images should not exceed 768 h, and horizontal images should not exceed 1024 w.  Square images should be 768 × 768.
4. Name your files with your initials followed by a 2-digit Serial Number.  For example, CK01.jpg, CK02.jpg, CK03.jpg. The serial number should suggest the order in which you want the slides presented.

  • For multimedia submissions we accept only Self Contained Quicktime .mov files at 1024 × 768.  This should be submitted in addition to the individual components (jpegs, title/end slides, sound file) just in case.. They should not exceed 250MB, and not exceed 5 minutes.
    1. Please also make the following slides/ jpegs:
    a.     Title slide (jpeg) with your name (and the title of the project if applicable) for the beginning of your slideshow. This should be labeled with your initials followed by 00 (CK00). The Name slide must be the first slide in your show.
    b.     End slide (jpeg) with your contact info, labeled with your initials followed by the last two serial numbers in your project.
    c.     Music credit slide (jpeg).  Remember that these should also be legible when scaled down for the website.
    1. Choose and include an audio file, such as music or an interview in an MP3 format only- this is required. No slideshows will be played silently.  Unless you have plans for live music or performance, this should be included in your submission. if you are having trouble thinking of a song or audio piece, please get in touch with austin@slideluckpotshow.com before the submission deadline, and we may be able to help.
    2. Fill out the questionnaire below as a text file
    3. Place all components in one folder, titled with your FULL NAME as you’d like it to appear in all contexts
    4. Upload your COMPLETE submission via FTP (see instructions below)*
    5. Email austin@slideluckpostshow.com with a copy of the questionnaire, only after you have successfully uploaded your folder.  We apologize, but we receive so many emails that we may not be able to immediately confirm receipt of each submission.
    6. We will notify artists the week of the show who we will be showing.

All entries must be submitted with all above components by the submission deadline for consideration. Please follow the submission guidelines carefully.
