Communications Officer / United Nations Development Program
The UNDP has an opening for a communications officer for Asia and the Pacific, to be based at its New York office reporting to the deputy director and head of external communications. The position involves developing regional strategic communications plans consistent with UNDP’s goals ands priorities, nurturing strategic partnerships with international media organizations, working in close collaboration with the UDNP regional communication advisor and network of country communications managers, providing media and communications support to the regional director and assistant administrator, organizing media trips and generally being the interface point between the UNDP and media outlets within its region of responsibility.
The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in international affairs, development, journalism or communications, or the equivalent wok experience, five to seven years experience in international media relationships and a proven ability to work to deadline, an excellent English-language capability and the facility to analyze audiences, attitudes, media trends and communications products, which can be woven into an effective communications strategy, an in-depth knowledge of the region and an understanding of the vision, mandate and work of the United Nations and the UNDP. Flexibility, good interpersonal skills, the ability to work comfortably in multicultural teams and good computer skills are essential.
