Condolences to the loved ones of our colleagues who were killed in Mexico
|
Three news photographers and a woman related to one of them were found dead Thursday in the state of Veracruz, the same one where less than a week ago killed a Mexican journalist of the weekly magazine Proceso.
The state attorney general’s office said in a statement that police found the dismembered bodies with torture marks of the four in Boca del Rio in the metropolitan area of Veracruz, one of which was identified as Guillermo Luna Varela, veracruznews.com.mx photographer., a local news agency and his girlfriend, Irasema Becerra, was identified by relatives as another victim of the crime.
Another victim was Gabriel Huge, who until 2011 had worked as a newspaper photographer Notiver.

I saw it on the news. This makes the “litle” incidents I encounterd (not so long ago) with random agressive people, police and brutal governement-puppets look very very very small. Strength to all the others that are in a shitty situation for simply taking photos or writing.

Indeed. I’m with Tom on that. And it seems to be getting more dangerous out there, too. Everybody who shoots abroad, whether for news, NGOs, or any other purpose should pay attention to any bulletins or warnings posted on LS and the CPJ website, and their own government’s travel warnings. Be careful out there, folks. Maybe anyone who has any specific warnings should post to “Alerts” on this site so as to remain anonymous, especially if they are still in the country they are talking about. Condolences to the families of our colleagues in Mexico.
