Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know

Dear all

I’m looking for images related to a piece in the 2nd edition of Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know which will discuss the CIA secret prisons also known as black sites.  I am looking for images from Bagram of metal containers at Bagram Air base which have been reported as suspected black sites or the Salt Pit near Bagram.  See the info below  and please contact me if you have photographs that might fit this.  Pls send to crimesofwarproject@yahoo.com

Best,
Sheryl

In Afghanistan, the prison at Bagram was initially housed in an abandoned brickmaking factory outside Kabul -and moved to the base some time after a young Afghani died of hypothermia after being stripped naked and left chained to a floor. During this period, there were several incidents of torture and prisoner abuse, though they were related to non-secret prisoners, and not the CIA-operated portion of the prison. At some point prior to 2005, the prison was again relocated, this time to an unknown site. Metal containers at Bagram Air Base were reported to be black sites 3. Some Guantanamo detainees report being tortured in a prison they called "the dark prison", also near Kabul.4 The "salt pit" at Bagram was disclosed as another site.5 In Iraq, Abu Ghraib was disclosed as also working as a black site. 6 Additionally, Camp Bucca (near Umm Qasr) and Camp Cropper (near the Baghdad International Airport) were reported.
An Israeli newspaper reported Al Jafr prison in Jordan as a black site. 7 Black sites have also been reported in Alizai, Kohat, and PeshÄ?war, Pakistan.

Sheryl, I visited Bagram and saw the prison I think you’re referring to, but it was certainly not for public consumption and I’d be surprised if anyone got to photograph it..Good luck.

Thanks so much for your input folks its very helpful.  Global security is probably the way we’ll go with a satellite image if I can get space large enough in the book to properly show it.

Cheers,
Sheryl
