Digital Ricoh GR-1, out very soon!

Ricoh just put the GR-1 Digital on their webpage!

First impressions are:

  • Same size and sleek design in black
  • 8.13 mill. pixels chip, though not a full frame chip, not even close. Ricoh has put a 5.9mm F/2.4 lens on it which they say is the equivalent to 28mm focal length on 35mm film camera – so it must be quite a small chip. Just hope that it doesn’t mean to much of a "video look" with the inherent bigger depth of field…
  • No optical view finder – Ricoh has made an optional external one to go in the hot shoe(Like Leica and G-2) – yes there’s a hot shoe(Don’t now if it is hot though…
  • They also make an optional lens conversion attachment, which makes the lens into a 21 mm equivalent.
  • It has a pop up flash
  • It takes SD cards

Take a look at it:

Looking good on a web page. Wonder how it will match my good old (very unstable…) GR1s…?

Hi David

Sorry guys, I guess this is already old news. I just got psyched up…! (See thread from yesterday…).
I will add this though, the Ricoh importer in Thailand told me they were expecting it in november since the World wide launch date is 21. October.

It has a tiny sensor for 8.1 Mpx, and thus probably crappy noise at anything over 200 iso :/
