do i need a coolscan V?
|
Hi, does anyone have a succinct recommendation re: film scanners?
I remember being perfectly happy, in 2001, with that era’s Coolscan. Do I really need to dig deep and get a V or 5000?
thanks!

Gilby,
Depends on the final use of the scan and how fast you want them done. I’ve used the Coolscan IV and it’s slower and a bit smaller resolution (if I remember) but if you’re scanning for online or newsprint it’s more than enough. I’ve even used the old CanoScan FS4000US quite a lot and it worked great for full screen online scans.

If you are scanning 35mm, I would stay away from the flatbed scanners. In my experience, it is just a passable scan. It would depend on how big of a print you would want to make from it. I would be curious to here from those with the Coolscan V how big they are printing?
