Do not upgrade to Tiger....!

Have a read of what works and doesn’t work once upgraded to Tiger (Link)- I’m really starting to dislike Mac, after my hard drive died and now this, all I’m trying to do is get Quicktime to work, but I have to upgrade to Tiger because the new version of Quicktime 7 doesn’t work with anything else but Tiger – Quicktime 7 is the only version you can download from the Apple site. Can anyone help???? Thanks again Mac, they are becoming more and more like Bill Gates. www.macintouch.com/tigerreview/incompatibility.html

I just upgraded to Tiger and have no problems at all. Have you updated the Tiger OS 10.4 to OS 10.4.3? Try clicking the Software Update button and installing the newest updates. I’m very happy with my new software after the update. Try the “Software Update” from the Apple Menu after the disc install. Good luck.

I have been running Tiger for two months without any problem, and the lastest is great with RAW files.

you hard disk has nothing to do with Tiger if you install Tiger make a clean instal if it is running download copyclone this aplication will backup your system on a other place like a harddisk. But I did it to my iPod so if my hard disk crash you can start the computer c button down and select the iPod and he will run afther you clone again the iPod to your hard disk old or new and whala it is running.

If you have questions please let me know you can call me to by skype at upa_photo.

Good luck

Dont forget that list is pretty old now, it was created the day after tiger was official released and its understandable that most 3rd party apps hadnt released tiger specific versions.

Patrick, Tiger (10.4.3) is absolutely stable and should not be a problem at all…I strongly suggest you make a ‘clean install’, everything should be fine afterwards…and Tiger brings a lot of new functionalities…I don’t think it is a particularly good idea in general to keep an outdated system…the QT 7 thing is annoying, sure, but why are you trying to run a new version of QT with an old system? QT 7 is made to work with Tiger…I have read some of the ‘incompatibilities’ in your link…most seem to come from badly installed applications, for instance the Adobe Photoshop issue reported is absolute B***Sh***t…it works absolutely fine on both my machines, one in English, one in French!!!

My understanding is that bear bile will solve all these problems.

hey, paddy— tiger’s stable, moreso than jaguar and panther. and in order to do that apple made some pretty drastic changes to the os architecture itself, so it was more than just adding the dashboard widgets etc and asking another $150. i think the dashboard was actually added as a bit of gimicky incentive to get people to upgrade, so that they felt as if they were getting something for their $$$. it was pretty ridiculous that so many of the app developers were a bit slow with their updates, but at this point all the apps that i cared about prior to the upgrade are tiger-compatible, except for maybe suitcase, which i was happy to abandon anyway… let me know if you’re having any problems with any of yr apps, i can probably help out… hope you’re well, man!

John, I totally forgot about the bear bile thing, I tried a little bit of Rhino horn in the CD slot but no luck. I’m off to Chinatown first thing in the morning to get me hands on a fresh batch bear bile. Isn’t life so easy when you have bear bile on hand, sex for hours, and I’ve been told you don’t even need to backup, just one drop on the key and you’re done, sex hours on end, no need for a comdom and you’re back up, all in one drop. How you’ve been, sorry I’ve been a little slack on the e-mail front-thats another story altogether, hard drive died, and I didn’t backup. I’m off to Aus tomorrow to do some work on Kangaroo hunting, once I have turned myself around I’ll drop you an e-mail on the weekend. see ya

cheers paddy

Oops that came out wrong…. it would be nice to know that you did manage to upgrade okay, and that it wasn’t too problematical, because I need to do it too and am worried about it.

As long as you are running a G4 Mac with at least 256 meg of ram you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Just install the OS 10.4 from the disc and then run your software update. The update will make OS 10.4 into OS 10.4.3 and everything should be fine. I’m having no problems whatsoever and I’ve had Tiger for more than a week now.

what version of OS X are you running. I’m on 10.3.9 and I have quicktime 7 installed and running fine. no tiger here and quicktime works fine.

Thanks Oscar for your advice. You make it sound so easy! I’ve a new laptop w/tiger on sorted now with all my work, step one completed without hassles, and will progress to the upgrade of desktop next…
