Edit Photo - slow to take

Maybe it’s because I’m running IE on Mac OS 8.6. Anyone else experience a lag when editing a new photo/image for your profie? I went to change my photo, but the change wasn’t reflected until I logged out and logged back in. Also the small thumbnail jpg looks black, where as jpg file I posted is full color. Maybe the resolution of my image file was too low. I’m trying a new image at 200 pixels square. We’ll see how that works.

Hey Retsu – hisashiburi man. Thanks for posting the note… I think you might be the first Lightstalkers to post with that particular browser/OS combo, but probably you won’t be the last. Anyway, I’m checking it out now…

yeah. i just tried it using osX and safari and while it was weird for a moment once i reloaded the page it was all good.

Update — I do get that black, messed-up photo problem occasionally. Since it’s intermittent, nailing it down is hard; in the meantime, Retsu, I advise you to just try again — I think it’ll work for you after a couple tries.
As for speed, it probably just comes down to the size of the file being uploaded… I’ll see what I can do!

Thanks for checking into this. I did try to re-do it with an image file I made 200×200 pixels 72dpi jpg. Now it’s really not working — as you can tell from my blackened photo. I’ll try to rejig the jpg file. . . maybe “save for web…” or something will help.
At any rate, no worries. I’ll figure it out eventually. It’s probably my ancient G3 set-up.

hm. that’s weird. i don’t know why uploading it would change the image itself if you’ve uploaded it as a 72dpi jpg at that size. shinji?

Checking in — I’ve narrowed it down to Internet Explorer on the Mac, as Retsu guessed. I’ve got a couple leads on solutions, but for now I’m just going to put a note on the edit photo page…

I just tried with the same image file from the office Windows XP/Explorer machine. Not quite working yet. Next step, I think I gotta rejig the image file, which I was putting off.

Phew! Got it to take. When I went to “save for web…” with the image file, I discovered that there was an embedded color profile in my original jpg file. The combination of “discard color profile” and “save for web…” seems to have stripped the file down enough that it now is posting with no redraw problems. Thanks for all your help, Shinji, Eugene.
