|
Im considering springing for an Epson Rd-1 or Rd-1s soon and am wondering about anyones experiences, likes/hates with it for photo-j work, durbaility, ease of use, etc. Im used to using a Mark II, but would like something very small and discreet as well. thanks for anything ya got.

Hi Eric,
I was going to buy one in the UK last year, but was advised by the shop staff not to on the grounds that it is discontinued, not serviceable? as the focus set screw comes out, shame because I would have liked one. Epson do not appear to be introducing any new ones either but there are rumours that Nikon may be developing one. In the end I ended up with a Canon G9 lots of links to reviews etc. on my blog http://lifespy.wordpress.com A pretty good tool as it records decent web quality video, audio, and stills at 12MP a little noisy at above 400 ISO but so is my D2x certainly usable if you set the lens up to snap shooting mode (see blog) oh’ and its hell of a lot cheaper!

Otherwise, second hand leica M8

The Rd-1/s are great cameras and in some ways what the M8 should have been.
That said, it is dated and still spendy. The RF has a tendency to come out of alignment easily and service can be very slow.
If you can get one sub 1k then jump.

I got dem things, I use it for shooting a 28mm (42mm) lens, one soft (canon) one contrasty(VC Ultron)…… occasionally the 50mm (75mm), a bitch to focus at times……… heavy camera, back it up with a baby DSLR and Ricoh film camera, gotta be versatile. I enjoy using the camera and don’t take much notice of the neg aspects,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, shoots great files. Recommend it? Naahh .. but I did to myself……………grin
