Evac / Medical Insurance
|
Hi all. I need some input… about to spend six months in the Russian tundra in a very remote location. I’m looking at some form of emergency medical / evac insurance; already have gear insurance lined up.
Anyone have a favorite company? Good or bad experiences?
Cheers,
Jess

SOS and Global Rescue are the ones I’ve purchased plans/memberships on – if any one has actually ever been evacuated or received any kind of medical treatment from them, I’d be curious to hear about their experiences.

Another option, as a supplement to any insurance you get is American Express Emergency Travel Insurance, which has the advantage of allowing you to use the global network of American Express offices, which usually have staff that speaks good English, and who often have contacts with local Medical, Government and Transport.

Teru, thanks. I’ve looked at Global Rescue and am pleased with what I’ve seen so far. Will check out SOS.
John Louis, I haven’t heard of the AmEx program before… thanks for passing it on!

I’ve bought Global Rescue policies. Never had to be Globally Rescued though so I don’t know what actually happens when it hits the fan.
