Fees, prices for photos?

Hi there, I wanted to get an idea of what the local freelance fees are for photography in China. How much do you ask for an assignment or per photo, for web publications? I assume it will be lower than what I can ask for shooting in Europe, so I would like to adjust my prices. You can send me a private message if you prefer. Thanks so much for any help!

Are you shooting for Chinese publication or European ? Chinese will not pay much, they do not put a great amount of value on photography work.It also really depends on what type of stuff you are shooting and also who you are working for.I’m not aware of any industry standard day rate here and most Chinese guys I know do not get much for for their images.Best way is to charge a day rate.Since I have no idea if you are working for a small or large agency then its hard to give you a sutiable fee to charge them.

Hi Phil,

Thank you for your reply, I thought I would be emailed replies and just saw it.

Actually, I am not the person shooting but the non-profit online publication from the West geared towards a Chinese audience that is looking for freelance fees. (I’d rather not say which, but we are somewhat like BBC Worldwide—although much smaller) We have a rate for photographers here in the West, but we have previously spent very little on photos from China (around 12 US dollars), relying on journalists to send in photos they make themselves to accompany articles. We now want to upgrade quality and get more specific photo assignments done, but have no idea of what we can reasonably ask of freelancers in China, and thus if we can afford it. We are now trying to ask a bunch if people (including this forum) to get an idea of what’s fair.

Let’s say, how much would an assignment of taking a few photos at an event in Beijing cost (for a Beijing-based photographer)? Or a few photos to accompany an interview? If we want to send a photographer out for an assignment (let’s say 2 or 3 days to take photos at a factory near Nanjing), how much would that cost? If you’d rather not publicly state this, please send me a DM or your email and I will contact you separately.

Thanks in advance for any help.
