Gary Knight's new magazine, Dispatches
|
I wanted to let everyone know about a new quarterly current affairs journal, called Dispatches, that we are launching.
Edited by Gary Knight of VII and Mort Rosenblum, Dispatches focuses on one critical global topic per issue. The first one is titled “In America,” and our second issue will be “Beyond Iraq.”
Of special interest to the photography world is that we are publishing one photo essay of up to 40 images across 80 pages by one photographer on a single topic. For “In America” we commissioned Antonin Kratochvil of VII to travel across the US for a month; for the second issue, we are working with Yuri Kozyrev of NOOR, who has spent the last 5 years covering Iraq.
If you check our website, you’ll find an On Photography section, where we will publish essays by leading industry figures. We’ve already uploaded an essay by Stephen Mayes on what we can learn from American culture about photojournalism for the next generation, as well as Tim Hetherington’s acceptance speech for the World Press Photo award. There’s also a multimedia piece by Antonin that explores his trip across the US.
Contributors for “In America” also include Paul Theroux, John Kifner, Samantha Power, Muzamil Jaleel, and Gerald Scarfe.

wow, great news! the website looks great, can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. so good to see new a publication from such great stock focused on photojournalism today and the issues that surround it. wicked.

Yeah….can’t wait to get my hands on this as soon as I can. The mission statement is inspiring, the essays are good and unexpected(a good thing), and of course the photos are great. This is the right road to head down, I have a feeling.
|
Amber are you going to send any copies out this way?
It would be great if you did, but I suspect that there isn’t a huge market so you probably won’t.
I’ll probably organize to get it smuggled over here!
|
worthwhile endeavor. gritty and with substance. really looking forward to it.
|
Bob, you can buy single editions on our website, if you’re in the US, look under “North and South America” under “Suscribe” and half way through the form there’s an option for single issue ($17). Postage for something that weighs as much as it does is expensive, unfortunately!
Lisa, you can order from our website for delivery in Australia, but at the moment we don’t have distribution there, although we of course hope to eventually. If you know anyone who wants to stock it in Australia, we could always ship them over a boxful to sell. But I hope you’ll subscribe in the meantime.
Thanks to everyone else for their enthusiastic response!

I’ll definitely ask my lecturers to order Dispatches to our university library. Based on the website, the magazine looks amazing.
|
I subscribed when this was posted….looking forward to first issue!
