Gas Masks and glasses.

Looking for advice/leeds on a gas mask that: I can wear glasses under, has a NATO standard 40mm canister thread and that has as wide of a field of view as possible. I’m gearing up to shoot an anual event where pepper spray is deployed as a matter of course and in large quantities. This year I would like to keep shooting in situations where in the past I was unable to keep my eyes open.

Hi. they make gas mask inserts for the military gas mask- but the effect of wearing a mask with inserts is very much like holding your glasses about an inch in front of your face and living like that. with the military mask and civillian SCBA I’ve preferred contacts.
then there are the desert storm- era glasses with the strap that you can wear under your mask- they were phased out by the time i was in the marines, but you still see them around.

For anyone who is interested, After buying a few masks I found that the aviation version of the current US M40 mask size medium fits right over my glasses. It has a large single lens that affords a wide field of view and is tollerable in the eye relief department when using standard SLR finders, but not Leicas.

Becareful with contact lenses I’m in the Navy and you have to remove them prior to donning masks bcause you dont have the ability to maintain them in the field for extended periods i guess thats not too much of an issue if you are going to only be shooting for a few hours. They do make inserts for the new masks we have  (MCU2 P) hat are supossed to be good and are actually attached to the glass of the mask.  hope that helps heres a sight with pics and names     the XM 50 JSGPM looks like a good one i couldn’t find a price anywhere though       good luck
