Anyone have been in Haiti the last months? I am moving there for two weeks in November to cover the presidential elections and I need a tip for a good hotel, not so expensive, and a fixer.

I was last there in Dec/Jan. I can get you in touch with people who were there in August.
A good hotel that is inexpensive is Wall’s International Guesthouse in Delmas. Good food,
good people. Gabrielle is great and knows everyone. You should be able to talk to Gaby
and get a fixer. Maybe Despagne would do it, assuming he has the time. He’d do it cheaply.
If you want to stay with the journos, go to the Hotel Oloffson. It’s more expensive but
it’s the in place to be in PAP. You will certainly by able to find a fixer there.
Get ready for a wild ride man! :)
I can get you the contact info in a bit.

Hugo,
The St. Joseph’s Home for Boys has a guest house, and the capacity for about 36 guests. When I was in Haiti, their rate was $25/day, which included breakfast and dinner. There’s a place to lock up valuables, a laundry service 3x a week, and they can help you find a fixer. There’s a fan, running water and ample electricity thanks to the solar panels on the roof. Good people….
Their international number is 011-509-257-4237 or email sjfamily@pobox.com

Hugo:
Norwich Mission House in Petionville: It’s a very
comfortably furnished house with constant supply of water and
electricity down the hill from the Petionville market, and off of
Delmas 84. They charge $30 per night, with breakfast and dinner
included. There is an armed night guard who will open the door for you
so you don’t have to worry about disturbing anyone.
You can email Matt Marek, the director of the mission, at
matt@haitianministries.org.
Let me know if you need other contacts…
