health insurance
|
hey all. a friend was asking about health insurance for indies.
I’m using media bistro’s avant guild program. I think it was about $50 to join for a year, which gives you access to their group rates for HIP and GHI. the plans start around $250 a month.
anyone else using a different system?

Yup. Working Today health insurance: www.workingtoday.org. The rates are about the same, you get on the HIP plan for health & dental, and aside from insurance & benefits they are involved in financial planning, legal help advocacy, you can register to vote, and they have links to all these other useful sources (workingtoday.org/advocacy/links.php) — which is like health insurance with an added bonus: a conscience.

hi
i qualify for the underpaid/Healthy NY program.
you must be presently uninsured and earn under some amount per year (maybe something like 23,000) — and if you are a freelancer, can claim expenses to take you income down to set amount.
Healthy NY hooked me up with Oxford — and i pay $189/month: no dental though.
google HealthyNY for more info.

both the NPPA and the ASMP offer health insurance to their members at what seem to be reasonable rates. Of course it is a bit expensive to join the ASMP, cheaper for NPPA.
not that i can afford any of it….but if you can, check it out and compare…
