HELP-Processing Ricoh GR D raw files

I’m having problems being able to process the raw files (.DNG) taken on the Ricoh GR D. Does anyone know if you can do it using Photoshop CS (if so, how?) or can you only process them with Adobe Photoshop Elements? thanks, Simon.

Try downloading latest version of Adobe DNG converter (if you haven’t already). Convert to DNG and open in Camera Raw:-) CS won’t convert on it’s own, only a laest version of ACR for CS2 will (I’m pretty sure anyway…)
Good luck,
Ivan

Hi Ivan-
I’ve downloaded the latest version of Adobe DNG converter (3.3 beta) however this doesn’t seem to work. I just get an error message saying “could not complete your request because this version of Photoshop does not supply the services required by this plug-in module” when I try and open the file in Photoshop CS. Any suggestions? Happy Christmas down-under!

The converter is a stand alone app Simon. You should copy the RAWs into a folder on the desktop, then drag that folder onto the DNG app, it will then offer you some choices for how and where you like to save your new DNG files. Once they are converted into DNG’s you should be able to open them in Camera Raw direct or through the File Browser. The point is, you are converting them into Adobe’s open source Digital Negative format which all versions (from CS up) should be able to open:-) DNG converter isn’t a plug in.

Hope this is accurate, we’ve already started on the bubbly here (11hrs ahead). Have a good one and do like me, put the computer to bed!! ;-)

Try out Silkypix http://www.isl.co.jp/SILKYPIX/english/ I do use CS2 and find it best option for raw processing from any digicam so far. Andris

Hmm…the CS browser wont recognise em because CS was made before the camera. Maybe the new ACR plugin was made earlier too, which is why they wont open – although as Ivan says, the DNG converter is stand alone software and should convert them to a format which photoshop can ‘see’.

This is whats known as the ‘raw flaw’. Apparently some software wont open Canon D30 raw files anymore because theyre not supported anymore.

It makes you eventually beholden to the manufacturers when it comes to opening your archive…

On a related camera note, I got a Canon IXUS 750 for Chrimbo and it ROCKS man! Everybody run out and get one! : )

Thanks guys. Worked out that I needed an earlier version of the Adobe camera raw plug-in. The new version (3.3 beta) only works on CS2- although doesn’t tell you that on their website! I needed the 2.4 version. All works fine now and I can look at all the dodgy Christmas photos I’ve been taking! Happy New Year everyone.

Hi there Simon! Hope you enjoyed x-mas. Just wondering how you find the GR D? Happy with it? Don’t have to elaborate too much on it, just a quick rating of it would be great. Thanks and say hi to those I know over there, David

Hi again Simon, just saw your posting on the "what a load of crap" thing, so no need to post anything here. I was just looking for someone who actually liked the camera. Take care mate, D.
