Kabul Bombing story and video

All – I’ve written a story for TIME (where I freelance as a reporter here in Kabul) on witnessing the bombing of the Ashura holy day and shooting it – and on what its like to work here as a photographer (I shoot for Polaris Images), reporter and videographer. I thought it might be an interesting read. The story is at http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,2101935,00.html. I also shot photos and video during the bombing. These can be seen at http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/world/2011/12/07/bs-bts-afghanistan-blast-witness.cnn (a CNN BackStory account of what it was like) and at http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/world/2011/12/06/walsh-afghan-shrine-bombing.cnn

Hey John,

Very well done on all parts—-the coverage itself and your ability to continue on with it and then your first hand account of the bombing and the aftermath. Considering the toll in human life it took, it might be hard perhaps to be “happy or proud” of your coverage, but you should be glad with how well you have managed to bring what the situation is like to viewer and that is important. I hope you can take some time for yourself to decompress as events like that can creep up on you afterwards—-very steady coverage here on your part.

take care,
