Hi, any words on KEH camera? Im trying to buy a camera online, and it’s hard to find a mail order outlet that doesnt have a lot of negative feedback. thanks in advance.

They’ve always been very helpful to me in the past and I would never hesitate to buy from them. They also give pretty reasonable trade-ins on used equipment. Best, -John

i almost bought my maymia 7 from them, actually i did. i told them i needed it the next day and it didn’t arrive, the guy taking the order screwed it up and then dealing with it was a bit of a pain becuse there’s one guy there on saturday who was more or less incapable of doing anything. at the very least though the manager was responsive on monday morning and i managed to get my money back without a problem. other people i know have used them and liked them and my expeirience i think was probabally jsut a screwup, albeit a very sloppy one, so while i wouldn’t order from them again under deadline i’d consider it with more time on my hands.

I’ve bought lots of gear from them, and only had one small problem, which they cleared up quickly. They’re very reliable, in my opinion…

hell no. I bought a Nikonos from them. Everything went wrong with this camera. Everything broke, which leads me to believe they do not screen their used gear well. I bought the camera for a trip to the rainy jungle, and by the time I got home the short warrantee had expired. KEH said they would give me a $50 discount on repairs as a curteosy, so I sent the camera back, they took it all apart and then said it would cost me $250 bucks to fix. Theys said it had water damage….on a fucking underwater camera. I originally bought the camera for $300. I said just send the camera back to me, they said they would charge me $50 more to put it back together. I told them to fuck off. Keep the camera. Bastards. I don’t shop at KEH.

Teru, I buy from them first usually, then from B&H. Used equipment mostly, but I’ve never had a bad experience or heard negative reports (until I read Eros’ experience)

I’ve bought most of my lenses from them (used) over the past three years and everything is still working great.

I’ve bought quite a bit from them. Good prices, good service. Their rating system is wonderful. They did mess up one lens order, but fixed it at their cost. And just this week I am returning a lens rated EX+ but its AF is broke. I wouldn’t order from them at the last minute, and I would check out every item as soon as it arrives.

KEH is one of the best. I think it is in the same league (for quality of service) as B&H and Adorama. Their selling prices are very fair, new is always about the same as B&H and used is a little to a lot less, depending on the condition of whatever you are buying. What they offer when you are selling to them is usually pretty low, but they are very reliable (and easy) folks to deal with. Their rating system on used gear is very conservative. When they grade something as Like New it is really Like New. Excellent or Excellent Plus is usually closer to Mint. I would not hesitate to buy from them. jack

I’ve bought lenses from KEH on several occasions. Once they screwed up and sent a Poor quality straight Leica M mount 50mm when I’d ordered a Very Good condition 50mm dual-range. They rectified the “picking error” right away, but not in time for my shoot the next day. I think they’re well intended, but a bit lacking when it comes to checking details.

Actually, for classic/vnitage/film cameras I like Blue Moon Camera and Machine in Portland Oregon (bluemooncamera.com). Great customer service and prices. Best to just call or e-mail and ask for what you need, even if it’s a fully restored Olivetti Italian typewriter. They even do obscure film formats . . . they’re singlehandedly bringing Minox back in vogue!

I’ve bought a bunch of Olympus gear from them. It always seemed better than advertised, condition-wise. No complaints about KEH.

KEH matches Adorama and B+H prices with film etc . . . not sure if that goes for used stuff too, but i’m always happy to support what is left of the little man.

As photographers I think it’s important to value any kind of relationship we can have with the people whom we give half of our income to. I am so sick of waiting in line behind the masses.

I also have bought (used) stuff from them and have not had any problems. I do have a friend that got a bad quantum pack used product but they took care of it, actully he ended up paying an extra $100 dollars and got a new one, instead. Good place and they got your back if anything goes wrong, it might take them an extra day, but they take care of you.

dang. epinions, step aside.

thanks a lot everyone. just off the phone with KEH, coupla cameras on the way. hopefully they were just messing with Eros on account of his fruity name.

on the subject of used camera outfits, I’m currently trying to get a friend’s widelux repaired. he bought it from Adorama’s used department, and it broke down almost immediately. According to my camera mechanic, it had been rebuilt with the wrong parts, and he said he sees a lot of bad gear coming from Adorama’s used department. and if anyone has working widelux to sell, holla.

thanks again.

There were several wideluxes on ebay for sale at good prices this week, and they seemed to be in good condition, though who can say. Adorama and B&H, well when it comes to buying used from them, i wont do it. I have seen the crap that passes over their counter, and I had trouble in the past with both of them. No more.

I’ve purchased many pieces equipment from KEH over the last 5 years and never had anything but good experiences. In fact, I’ve even been pleasantly surprised with their “bargin” stuff having found their ratings to be very conservative and when I purchased a lens I didn’t like and kept it past their return policy date, I called them up and they stretched the date for me and gave me a full refund. I think you pay about 10-20% more for used gear there, but it has been worth it to me to deal with them.

I bought my widelux from KEH and love it! No problems, from them in fact you should look there to buy another one or see if they can repair it.
I once bought a konica hexar rf from them and within a few days of receiving it the rangefinder froze. I called them up sent it back and had it back and working FOR FREE within two days! I go to them first fo all my used camera needs. Hope to see you soon when I am in NYC.

Since you’re looking for a widelux, I’ve got to second ND Koster’s suggestion to try Blue Moon Camera in Portland. The owner is an honest guy with real passion for what he’s doing.

I’ve bought from them and also sold some older stuff to them. Never had a problem.

Keh is good, but don’t try to fuck with them. If you are nice to them, they will be nice to you.

They are the best place in the world to go for used stuff. The Key with purchasing used is to immediately put the whatever-it-is through its paces and determine right away if you need to send it back for any reason. Keh is good about returns.

I’ve bought a Bronica SQ for my girlfriend in KEH, it was even better than described, promtly delivered, I would say KEH.com seemed to be a very nice service.
Cheers, men.

I’m a fan, I’ve bought both new and used equip from them and had a problem only once that they fixed pretty quick at no cost to me. The problem was an insert to a hassy back did not match serial #s to its case. As for new stuff thier prices beat B&H or come very close.
