Kenya/ Africa electricity

Hello-
I am going to be traveling through various parts of Africa and was hoping someone could give me some advice about transformers/converts etc. Would you recommend a surge protector? I will be charging a mac ibook G4 laptop and Nikon D1 series batteries. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kira

Where are you planning to go besides Kenya?  There is a whole whack of adapters you might need.  If I recall correctly, Kenya is on the British three square prong system, although you can usually get by with the european two round prong.  Definitely bring a surge protector.  My G4 died in an unprotected socket and it is damn near impossible to repair macs anywhere in Africa besides South Africa and Kenya. Message me if you have questions about specific countries..

West Africa is on the European two round plug, Liberia is the same plug as US though 220 (I think),  Nigeria is on the British system.  Getting the actual converter plugs has never been a problem for me, though I’m sure they are higher quality from the States.   Laptops can be run off of 220 and so can your battery charger. I would definitely think about bringing a surge protector since power can be uneven.  Also if you have the extra $80 – bring an additional power supply for your G4.  Mine has blown twice in the US and Peter’s right – it would be almost impossible to find one here.
Good luck!
