I didn’t see much Ayurveda in Kerala (i saw more around Goa, but too touristic…), but you may want to end up around Kumili, on the border with Tamil Nadu. Any place will be reasonable anyway, I’m sure you can find monthly rent in mansion for no more than 2,000 Rps (40E). A daily stay in an hotel (Everest hotel) for me was 250Rps per day for 2 persons (5E) but you would get much cheaper if you stay longer.

There is a beautiful woman named Amma who is a profound humanitarian and spiritual teacher. I have known her for almost 10 years and can say she is the most amazing person I have ever met. She has an ashram in Kerala, and you can stay there very reasonably, without participating in ashram activities. http://www.ammachi.org/index.html, http://www.ammachi.org/centers/india.html
