Looking for photos of Iran
|
Dear Photographers,
The Spring 2009 issue of Middle East Report is a special issue on Iran (30 years since the revolution). I’m looking for a range of material — historical and recent.
Middle East Report (www.merip.org) is a progressive quarterly magazine on the politics, society, economy and culture of the region. We are non-profit and totally independent (we take no government or corporate funding). We can offer $100 per photo used at any size (they usually run about 1/2 page and are always in black and white).
Here are the subjects I’m looking for, feel free to get in touch if you have something relevant. Please try to send samples or web site addresses by January 17.
Photo needs:
+ Documentary photos from the 1979 Revolution and Iran-Iraq war (1980–1988)
+ Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani (politician, former president of Iran)
+ Reformists of late 1990s, such as Mohammad Khatami (former president), Saeed Hajjarian, Akbar Ganji
+ Attempts to police public morality (billboards, women morality police, etc.)
+ Anything showing irony or nuance in public displays of religiosity
+ Interaction between sexes
+ Public displays of affection between sexes
+ Jehad-e Sazandegi (government rural development organization) at work: building new roads, providing electricity to rural areas, building schools
+ Anything capturing “fat-cat” status of clerics and regime officials
+ Building boom in major cities in the 1980s (or images of Tehran’s urban density, high-rises and sprawl)
+ Skyline views of Tehran
+ Documentary photos showing how ordinary people get by
+ Journalists — at work, on trial or as faces of the regime
+ Abdulkarim Soroush
+ Mohsen Kadivar
+ Seminary students in class
+ Anything from Iran’s Baluchistan province (capital is Zahedan), also Jundallah fighters or activists
Thank you for your great work.
Best regards,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
I was in Iran earlier this year. I travelled by bus from Tabriz [via Tehran, Esfahan, Yazd and Bam] to Zehedan. It was quite a rushed journey but I managed to get quite a few photos.
Here’s a sample of my work. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sheridanflynn/sets/72157606260667616/
Regards,
Sheridan.
