Looking for photos of Iraq and Afghanistan for publication

I’m the photo editor of Middle East Report, a quarterly magazine published by the independent, non-profit Middle East Research and Information Project (MERIP), www.merip.org.

I’m looking for documentary photos of Iraq and Afghanistan for our Summer 2006 issue. A list of general topics is below. We can only print in black and white. As a small non-profit I have a tight budget, so our usual rate for the use of one photo is $100. The photos are usually run at 1/2 page or larger.

Please get in touch if you have something you think we might like. My deadline for final high-res images is May 12, so the sooner I can look at images the better.

Thank you.

Afghanistan: (since the US invasion in 2001)
- US bombing damage

Have a quick look at this handful of pictures that I took last year.

Three of them were in N Iraq (not including the one of US soldiers). Not sure if it’s the kind of thing you need, but let me know if it is and I’ll dig out more.

Hi Michelle,

I have photos of Afghanistan from June 2005 to Oct 2005. Please go to my website www.world-photographer.net. Also, on the “contact sheet” there are photos of NATO Romanian forces on patrol near Kandahar. I have more of the Romanians if needed. The deminers are Mozambique but contractors, they are in a field of landmines and ordinance from when the Soviets were there. I’m not sure if the bombing damage of the Warlord children’s homes were Afghan or American. If you want to see more I can send low res jpgs for quick review.

Michelle: I went to Afghanistan for two weeks in March 2006. My online journal and hundreds of pics are at http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Sharon-Jumper/
Let me know if you’d like me to e-mail them to you. I’m writing my dissertation on Afghan reconstruction and will be going back in the fall also.
