I’m sorry to post this news here, but I think most have already heard.
Marla Ruzicka was killed yesterday in Baghdad. She was, to say the least, a dynamic and tireless activist, and a unique figure in the messed up places we work. She was 27.
NBC News will do a story on Marla on Nightly News tonight. James Hattori is the correspondent. CNN will also be doing a story, with correspondent Jane Arraf.
I’m passing on an email from Matt MacAllistair regarding her funeral.
> The funeral is set for Saturday in Lakeport, California. It’s about
> two hours drive north of San Francisco. You can fly to SF, Sacramento
> or Oakland. It will likely be a morning event so one could drive from
> SF in the morning.
> But Marla’s
> mother also wanted to know how many rooms to book in Lakeport itself.
> I found
> this site and there are some nice B&Bs there –

> be a small, pleasant town on the coast near or in wine country. My
> thoughts are that having made the long journey it might be nice for
> those who go to all agree to spend Friday and/or Saturday night in the
> same town – either SF or Lakeport.
> Lakeport, I would have thought.
> Please spread this info as far and wide as you can. I’m sure I’ve
> forgotten some people. Catherine is at firstname.lastname@example.org and will
> no doubt be passing on more info soonish.
