Great shots, Alan. The photo with the troops sitting down and the cranes in the background, what building is being reconstructed? Is it a mosque?
|
It’s not a building being reconstructed. President Hussein (aka Saddam) was in the process of building the world’s biggest mosque before the American invasion. Apparently it still sits in limbo.
Alan, is that your powerbook the soldiers are looking at? They’d always seemed to be PC types to me.
|
no, that is the soldier’s own computer! some of the budding DJs, photographers, and film-maker types in the Army get Apple Macs, and, of course, his is much newer than mine. i’m still on the white G3 iBook here…
And yes, that is Saddam’s unfinished mosque. i believe that construction was stalled or at least slowed even before the 2003 invasion, due to lack of funding…
Not much actually gets “reconstructed” around here.

Hey Alan,
Thanks for the viewing. Amazing really how times have changed!
Maybe you could show some of these images to Apple for their archives… or even document a story for them in exchange for a new laptop+ — just a little idea…
stay well,
gigi

yep – if you want us to start a signature drive that this photo warrants unlimited sponsorship of one Alan Chin by Apple Computers for all eternity, I’ll be the first to sign. Love it! Also like the bizarre not-quite-powerpoint-presentation training session.
wishing you lots more great & safe shooting out there,
